Lorry overturns on Dunearn Road; 24-year-old driver arrested

A 24-year-old lorry driver was arrested for driving without due care and attention after his lorry ended up on its side on Dunearn Road, The Straits Times reported on 9 October 2026, citing the police.

Police said they were alerted at about 7.25pm on 8 October to an accident involving a lorry on Dunearn Road heading towards Newton Circus. Photos shared on social media showed the vehicle lying on its side next to a height barrier marked with a 3m limit, partly blocking the road. No injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing.

The accident came a day after a separate crash on the Tampines Expressway on 7 October, in which a lorry, a car and two motorcycles were involved. Nine people, including the lorry driver and six lorry passengers, were taken to hospital, the newspaper reported in an earlier article.

In the TPE crash, The Straits Times reported that the accident happened at about 6.50am towards the PIE after the Punggol Road exit, that a motorcycle caught fire and members of the public put out the flames with extinguishers, and that LTA warned of heavy congestion stretching back to Sengkang West Road.

The cause of the Dunearn Road accident has not been established, and SGFleetGuide will not speculate on it. The incidents do, however, highlight risks that fleet operators manage every day: height restrictions on urban roads, young and less experienced drivers in large vehicles, and passengers carried in lorry decks.

Practical steps include marking each vehicle’s loaded height clearly in the cab, briefing drivers on routes with height barriers, pairing new drivers with experienced ones on unfamiliar routes, and reviewing telematics alerts for harsh cornering and speeding. The Straits Times also noted that road accidents and casualties in Singapore rose for a third straight year in the first half of 2026.
